Particular Ideas is delighted to announce the launch of its first limited edition print with the UK-based artist Lydia Blakeley. This is the first time that the artist has used the silkscreen process to reimagine one of her richly coloured paintings.

Super Mop with Marigolds, 2020, is a 15-colour silkscreen print, originally based on a photograph taken from the bible of the British high street, the Argos catalogue. Blakeley often takes her inspiration from the multitude of images that we are exposed to on a daily basis. Initially recreating the catalogue photograph as an oil painting, Blakeley has transformed it into a multi- layered silkscreen print, challenging the viewer to slow down and look at the colours, shapes and forms of these objects, imbuing them with new meaning and importance. In an interview with Elephant Magazine last year, Blakeley said ‘there are so many ways you can reflect the world, and what’s going on in the painting process itself. Obviously it’s a slow medium—it takes time, it’s built from layers—and so I like the idea of creating that space where viewers can reflect on that’.

Lydia Blakeley (b. 1980) lives and works in Leeds, UK. She is a recent graduate of the MFA Fine Art programme from Goldsmiths, University of London. Current solo exhibitions include, Classics, Niru Ratnam Gallery, London, 2 December 2020 – 23 January 2021, and National Velvet, Alessandro Albanese, Milan, 17 October 2020 – 7 January 2021. Her work was recently included in the exhibition, Everyday Heroes, at the Hayward Gallery, London, and is currently on view as part of the group show, after image, at Mamoth Contemporary until 13 December 2020.

Particular Ideas is a contemporary arts enterprise that collaborates with artists on exhibitions, special projects and limited edition artworks.
