a window, a cross, a box, a portal. let me get under your skin and wear it. This stupid macho suit. in tarp, hessian, canvas, and steel. keep me in. keep me down in a fluorescent ratchet strap. wrapped around me, a piece of steel on a pallet crate. signs of wear, badges of honour. petrol powered, diesel dirtbox, sandworm, sandbox. beer sweat and piss in a nice neat little scooner after a days hard work. seams bursting on my 501s. i can’t take the strain.

Give a Trucker a Thrill, 2025 by Eva Dixon, is a playful, nostalgic assemblage featuring a collection of vintage-style embroidered patches digitally reproduced on a wooden panel. The composition evokes the aesthetics of CB radio culture, amateur clubs, and quirky subcultural badges from the mid-to-late 20th century.

Each patch carries its distinct visual language and humour-laden message — from the cheeky Breaker: That's No Rubber Duck patch, featuring a pair of cartoonish breasts, to the tongue-in-cheek slogan CB'ers: Keep The Lipstick Off Your Dipstick. A triangular blue patch labelled Venture, with a teddy bear insignia, contrasts with a risqué, vintage-style pin-up illustration. Together, these elements build layers of nostalgia and absurdist cultural humour. The arrangement feels both curated and spontaneous, celebrating eccentricity, countercultural artefacts, and outsider communities. Dixon’s work invites reflection on how seemingly disposable pop ephemera can carry rich, layered narratives about identity, sexuality, and belonging.

Digitally printed on 12mm plywood and screenprinted with a gloss varnish, the work’s materiality enhances its tactility. Staying in line with Eva Dixon’s practice, it functions as both painting and sculpture, engaging with ideas of collections and the objecthood of images. The inclusion of a hook hanging device encourages the work to be displayed, while retaining its tangible, unsealed character — a reminder of the intimate, handled nature of the ephemera it references.

In blurring boundaries between image, object, and archive, Give a Trucker a Thrill prompts a reconsideration of the cultural weight carried by the kitsch, the eccentric, and the marginal.
